Van Morrison - Biography in Verse
Van Morrison
He began blowin’ your mind in ’67.
With Brown Eyed Girl, it felt like heaven.
It took two days to cut Astral Weeks,
Mixing folk music and Jazz techniques.
We come running to Moon Dance,
Where crazy love puts us back in a trance.
He had a wild night with Tupelo Honey,
Then was hard nose to the highway and newly free.
It’s too late to stop now, a period of transition
Drew us into the music and a beautiful vision.
He performed live at the Grand Opera House, Belfast
With a Sense of Wonder, we had a blast.
Music is his heart, he has the soul of a preacher,
But told the critics there’s no guru, no method, no teacher!
As his spirituality and passion grows,
He showed us how poetic champions compose.
Hymns to the Silence follows enlightenment,
A youth of a 1,000 summers makes a statement.
With Gloria he spent too long in exile,
A night in San Francisco made him smile.
Days like this – how long has this been going on?
Tell me something, Mose Allison.
He was busking again in The Healing Game,
Got back on top, so you win again!
Down the Road explored the beauty of days gone by,
But what’s wrong with this picture, the critics cry.
Fame – you’re to blame, though it’s a magic time.
Ain't nothing fair about fame, it’s the press’s crime.
He had to pay the devil and the fat cats.
Now he says ‘Keep it Simple’ and that’s that.
