NW4 Hendon, Brent Cross Living
Brent Cross and Hendon are two areas located in the North West of London, more precisely, in the London Borough of Barnet. They are connected to Central London by the Northern Line (Black Line), which allows easy access to some of London’s hotspots such as Camden Town or the London Bridge and King’s Cross and St. Pancras international railway stations. Brent Cross is best known for its famous mall, Brent Cross Shopping Centre, which was opened in 1976 and was the first stand-alone shopping centre in the UK.
The mall is now one of London’s most famous shopping spots and is in constant renovation, and it includes various stores such as John Lewis, Fenwick, H&M, Waitrose, Boots, Marks and Spencer and WH Smiths. The shopping centre offers various facilities for families with children, disabled customers and over 8000 free parking spaces. It also boasts good connections with the local public transports, with two tube stations nearby (Brent Cross and Hendon Central), as well as abundant bus routes going to and from the mall, which is open seven days a week and has more than 120 stores.
Hendon is just close by, seven miles away from the very central location of Charing Cross. Hendon became famous thanks to the Hendon Aerodrome, a very important centre for aviation at the beginning of the twentieth century. Hendon Aerodrome was heavily used by the Royal Air Force during World War I and for this reason, as well as all the pioneering experiments which took place in there, such as the first airmail drop and the first ever night flight, the Aerodrome has now become the Royal Air Force Museum.
This museum is dedicated not only to the Royal Air Force itself, but also to the history of aviation in general, and it was opened my Her Majesty The Queen in 1972. It currently houses five exhibition halls: The Grahame-White Factory, The Battle of Britain Hall, Historic Hangars, The Bomber Halls and Milestones of Flight, and has over a hundred aircrafts on display, as well as artwork, photographs, medals and uniforms and even some research and education facilities.
Best of all, the museum is very accessible thanks to multiple transport links (it is only 7 minutes away by bus from Colindale Tube station) and its proximity with the M1, it is family friendly and accessible for disabled visitors, and the entrance is free of charge.
